For Women Life Freedom, a nonprofit organization committed to advancing human rights and championing the voices of Iranian women in their pursuit of justice and liberation.
Mr. Kazemi has been one of the most influential and courageous figures during the Mahsa Amini revolution for Iranian women's rights, as seen in the Los Angeles protests. As one of the early leaders of women's rights protests inside Iran, his impact both domestically and internationally has been profound. Since relocating abroad, his central mission has remained unchanged: to carry the voices and demands of Iranian women through music, art, and global music platforms.
Through the direct collaboration of Mr. Kazemi, the For Women Life Freedom non-profit organization successfully launched a historic international music initiative. Our joint project centered on the powerful song “Baraye,” originally performed by Iranian artist Shervin Hajipour in protest against violence against women in Iran. When the Islamic Republic banned Hajipour from officially releasing the song, Shervin Hajipour published his song on his Instagram page, and subsequently, the Islamic Republic regime imprisoned him. Mr. Kazemi’s tireless coordination ensured this anthem was re-recorded and shared globally.
Under his leadership, we brought together 15 renowned Iranian vocalists and American artist Mr. Tyler Hansen to re-record "Baraye" in Henson Recording Studios in Los Angeles, supported by a chorus of 18,000 backup vocalists from both Iranian and American backgrounds. This powerful collaboration is considered one of the largest chorus recordings ever produced. The project reached an impressive milestone of 18,000 backup vocalists and participants worldwide, becoming a symbol of resistance and unity. Following this global movement, and after the banned song was heard by people around the world, especially Americans, First Lady Jill Biden honored Shervin Hajipour with the Grammy’s “Best Song for Social Change Special Merit Award” for his song "Baraye".
It is no exaggeration to say that none of this would have been possible without Babak Kazemi’s strategic insight, relentless effort, and unwavering belief in the cause. He remains one of the most active and impactful individuals in the For Women's Life Freedom organization, playing a crucial role in supporting the mission of freedom and women’s rights.
